Baguio City is approximately 250 kilometers north of Manila,the area of the city is 49 square kilometers. The city is a plateau that rises to an elevation of 1,400 meters. it is approximately 8 degrees cooler than the lowlands, so, at the turn of the 20th Century, the United States administration, founded Baguio & decided to make it a site for a summer capital and a health resort. The temperature seldom exceeds 26° centigrade at its warmest and the lowest reading ever, was 6.3° centigrade, recorded in January 18,1961.
On July 16,1990 a great earthquake devastated the city destroying many of its buildings and infrastructure and killing many people.
La Union (Surfing Destination)
Famed as a World class Surfing destination.
is in the province of Ilocos Norte, it has a population around 100,000, about 350 miles north of Manila. Travel time from Manila is 8 to 10 hours.
Places of interest include: Spanish colonial buildings, Philippine baroque churches, Marcos era mansions and white-sand beach resorts of Pagudpud, which is a 90 minute drive away.
