TREKKING IN THE LAND OF THE IFUGAO 2011
The mountainous province of the Cordillera is the perfect land for trekking. It is the site of the the eighth wonder of the world, the extensive Rice Terraces of Banaue. The scenery is breathtaking and incomparable.
Suggested ITINERARY (5 Days/4 Nights, From MANILA back to MANILA)
Day 1:
MANILA / BANAUE - Departure from Manila to Banaue by private airconditioned car with driver (10 hrs. trip, commencing from your hotel in Manila at 6am) crossing the agricultural plains of Central Luzon, then Sierra Madre and its arid mountains. Arrive in Banaue in the afternoon and check in your hotel. Visit the handicraft market, if time permits. Dinner and overnight.
Day 2:
BANAUE / CAMBULO - Breakfast at the Pension. Jeepney to the starting point of the trek: start hiking to Cambulo (4 hours split into 1h uphill, 2h flat, and 1h descent). Picnic lunch en-route. Dinner and overnight in the village in a local guesthouse, sharing the life of the Ifugaos.
Day 3:
CAMBULO / BATAD - Trek to Batad and its amphitheatre styled terraces, which are among the most beautiful in the area (2h30 hike split into 1h30 short uphill/downhill and 1h descent). Picnic lunch and swim at Batad waterfalls (1h down, 1h back up). Back to the village for a peaceful dinner and overnight in a local guesthouse.
Day 4:
BATAD / BANGA-AN / BANAUE - Breakfast in the village. Trek from Batad to Banga-an, by the "mountain crest trail" (3h up and down). Lunch in a restaurant in Banga-an overlooking the rice terraces. After visiting the village, jeepney back to Banaue. Dinner and overnight at Fairview Inn.
Day 5:
BANAUE / MANILA - Breakfast at the hotel. Back to Manila by private air-conditioned car with driver (10 hrs. trip). Arrival in Manila in the afternoon.

Includes:

- All private transportation as follows:

• MANILA/BANAUE/MANILA: air-conditioned car or minivan with English-speaking driver-coordinator.

• BANAUE/KINAKIN and BANGA-AN/BANAUE: private jeepney.

- Fullboard accommodation, Banaue Hotel or (simple local pension house with family atmosphere) and local guesthouses in the villages (very simple comfort) in CAMBULO and BATAD.

- the assistance of a driver-coordinator from Manila to Manila, an Ifugao guide and a local team, all English-speaking.

Not included : Meals during transportation between Manila and Banaue (and back), drinks, personal expenses.
There are plenty of opportunities to customise the tour if you wish to stay longer

The comfortable Banaue Hotel has a pool, restaurant, bar, billiards, views of the local rice terraces. The best choice.

Fairview Inn, is a friendly pension house, with family ambiance. Simple and basic accom.

Porters: During trekking, each guest carries his own bag, porters are available at around $20 USD per day.

Long Treks. 10 hiking days. A perfect long trekking itinerary is our 6 days of unforgettable hiking Banaue-Batad-Patpat-Talboc-Patyay-Cambulo-Banaue, or even 7 days culminating with Mt Amuyao climb (2800m).

In the same scheme as the above itinerary, but making it a total of 8 days Manila back to Manila.

This price does not include an optional tour leader from Manila and back, but we strongly recommend a tour leader for groups on long treks. Consult us.

It is possible to combine an Ifugao trek with our North Luzon destinations, Baguio, Vigan etc.

Season: Best season extends from November to June. Best months from January to May. Temp: 20 to 30ºC. The period from July to October is rainy: the atmosphere is humid, the roads and paths are difficult and soaked, evenings much cooler.

Physical Condition: Physical fitness preferred. Some passages might be difficult for those subject to vertigo.

In your luggage: sun protection (sunscreen, hat, sunglasses), hiking shoes, light waterproof backpack, raincoat, a sweater for the night (evenings may be chilly), bathing suit, water bottle, flashlight.
